Why does Chrome warn that it can “Read and change your browsing history on all your signed-in devices”?
That's Chrome's standard wording for the history permission, which the extension needs to delete entries. It only ever deletes visits to the sites you list. Visit addresses are checked on your device only to match them against your list, and your history is never stored or sent anywhere. “All your signed-in devices” is there because Chrome can sync history between devices.
Are subdomains included?
Yes. Adding example.com also hides www.example.com, m.example.com and every other subdomain. “Hide this site” adds the exact site you're on (without www.), so on mail.example.com it hides only that part. To hide the whole site, add example.com on the settings page.
A hidden site still shows up in my history or address bar
First check the switch in the popup: while it's off, new visits are kept. To clear them, open the settings page and click Clean all listed sites now; History Eraser also re-checks the last 7 days each time Chrome starts. Address bar suggestions can also come from bookmarks, open tabs or your search engine, which the extension doesn't change. If you use Chrome on other computers, install it there too so visits made on those devices are erased as well.
Why is “Hide this site” greyed out?
Only websites (http and https pages) can be hidden. Chrome's own pages such as chrome://settings and the new tab page, extension pages and files on your computer aren't websites, so there's nothing to hide.
How many sites can I hide?
Up to 500. Chrome sync allows about 8 KB per list, so very long site names can fill it a little sooner; the extension tells you when the list is full. On the settings page you can add sites in bulk (one per line) and import or export your list as a .txt file.
Does Site History Eraser collect my data?
No. It makes no network requests: no servers, analytics, ads or tracking. Your list is kept in Chrome's storage, and a simple counter of removed entries stays on your device. Details are in the privacy policy.
